Terms
The rules of the road
These terms cover your use of Debtus. We've written them to be read, not to be skimmed past — if something here isn't clear, that's a fault worth telling us about.
Last updated: 16 July 2026
Debtus is a ledger, not a lender
Debtus records debts. It doesn't move money. We never hold, transfer, lend or collect funds, and we're not a bank, a payment service or a lender. Settling up happens between you and the other person, however you already do it — cash, bank transfer, or the coffee you owed them. Debtus just keeps the record straight.
The debt is yours, not ours
A debt in Debtus is an agreement between you and the person it concerns. We're not a party to it. We don't verify that it's real, accurate or enforceable, and a balance in Debtus isn't proof of a debt or a legal judgment — it's a record of what you told us. If you and the other person disagree about what's owed, that's between the two of you to resolve.
Your account
You sign in to Debtus with your Sneat account, and your debts live in your own Sneat space. Keep your sign-in details to yourself — you're responsible for what happens under your account. You can stop using Debtus whenever you like, and take your data with you when you go.
What you record, and who you nudge
You're responsible for what you log: that it's accurate, and that you have a good reason to hold the details of the people you're recording it against. A nudge is a reminder between people who already know each other — not a debt-collection tool. Don't use Debtus to pressure, harass, threaten or repeatedly contact anyone, and don't nudge people who've asked you to stop.
Fair use
Don't use Debtus for anything illegal, and don't abuse it — no scraping, no breaking it on purpose, no using it to run a lending business behind our backs. We may suspend accounts that do, and we'd much rather never have to.
Free to start
Debtus is free to start, and the core of it — recording debts, logging repayments, seeing your balances — is what we want to keep that way. If we ever introduce paid features, we'll tell you what they cost before you're ever charged for them.
Connected to Splitus, on your terms
Split a group bill in Splitus and the resulting IOUs land in Debtus as ordinary debts. The same terms apply to them, and that connection only ever uses your data with your consent.
No warranties, and things change
Debtus is provided as-is. We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we can't promise it will never be wrong, never lose a beat, or never go down — so don't rely on it as your only record of something that really matters. We may change or discontinue features as Debtus evolves, and if we make a material change to these terms, we'll say so rather than quietly swapping the page.
This is an early page
These terms will grow into a fuller agreement as Debtus does. Questions in the meantime? Reach us via the Sneat platform.
